job interview etc

So my job interview went pretty good I think. They want the new person they hire to start on the first of July so he told my I would hear back from them sometime next week. He did say he had 2 more interviews to do, so we'll see. It's a big clinic, I would definetly be busy.
Went to Izzy's today and helped him pull weeds and stuff in his front yard. He has morning glory vines that have engulfed most of the shrubs and trees in his yard. Pulling them out was a chore! We had to stop before we were done because we filled his yard waste container to the top. So more next week. He has applied for unemployment and food stamps-hopefully he won't be out of work too long-his unemployment is less than $200.00 a week. And of course he just signed a new lease on his house for another year and they raised the rent!
I made a vegetarian chili for dinner tonight-it was alright, a little bland-maybe it needs to sit overnight so the flavors can meld-needs more salt too! I topped mine with cheese and sour cream, that helped, hehe.
I cooked some Tilapia last night that turned out really good. Lightly coated in flour, fried in olive oil, added a couple of tablespoons of butter, some freshly grated lemon peel and some freshly squeezed lemon juice to the pan to finish it off. Served it over rice that I had cooked in chicken stock and tossed in some frozen peas and a little of the lemon peel. Topped it with chopped chives from my garden. Hubby loved it!
Thinking about checking out the Taste of Tacoma tomorrow...

The coffee shop that my son works at closed it's doors for good yesterday. It was very last minute, they let their employees know the night before. So Izzy is out of a job and no prospects in sight. He is applying for unemployment, hopefully he will get a few bucks. He was talking about going to school to become a surveyor but I guess he spoke to someone that recommended apprenticing in the field rather than going to school. So he is looking into that.
I have a job interview tomorrow with Apple Physical Therapy. It's for a clinical assistant position at the office in south hill. It's only part time but my unemployment runs out the end of this month so anything is better than nothing! And actually if I don't have to go back to work full time I'd rather not :)
Carl and I are maybe going to buy another door or 2 for the house this payday. It would be nice to get a door on the computer room at least!

Northwest Brewer's Festival

Yesterday we went to the nw brewer's festival in Kenmore. Who knew there were so many different kinds of beer?! There were lots and lots of brewers from all over washington and oregon and not just beer but cider and wine too. There was also a rootbeer garden for the kids!
It was held at saint edward state park. Beautiful park on the north end of lake washington with a huge building that once housed a catholic seminary.
I was actually glad it was overcast and cool as the area in the park where they held the festival was in a big open field with no shade.
Each person got a tasting cup and six tokens with the price of admission. I was designated driver so I didn't use all my tokens. I tasted a couple of beers and one cider. Ate some sad excuse for pad thai and sampled some really nice smoked cheese. There was live music, the first band was fun but the second, um not so much...young guys playing what sounded like punk, I don't know, seemed like an odd choice for the event.
We hung around for 5 or 6 hours then stopped at Catfish Corner in Kent for dinner. I tasted a small piece of catfish, ate a hushpuppy and a pile of deep fried okra. It was pretty good!
I'm tired and a little sore though from all the walking and standing-there was no place to sit except on the ground.

another job interview

Today I had a job interview! It was for an office assistant/receptionist position for Johnny's Fine Foods. The office is less than 8 miles from my house, just a few blocks from the Tacoma Dome and across the street from Freight House Square. Finding parking wasn't fun-had to circle the block 4 times before I found a spot. Went up some narrow stairs to a tiny office where I signed in and met the current receptionist. The lady that I had the interview scheduled with came out of a back office and she pulled up a chair next to the receptionist's desk and had me sit in another chair and they sort of interviewed me together. It's basic receptionist stuff, answering phones, screening calls, taking orders for spices and stuff over the phone and on the internet, ordering and maintaining the office supplies and a few other things. It's full time, 7am to 4pm with an hour for lunch. Benefits after 6 months. Casual, they were wearing jeans. Sounds pretty good so far then they tell me it only pays $8.55 an hour with no chance for a raise...gah!!
Here's hoping I hear back on some of the other jobs I applied for.

insomnia

I really, really can't sleep lately...it's taking me between 1 and 2 hours to fall asleep after I get into bed and then I'm waking up almost every hour. We put a fan in the bedroom for some white noise and that helped a bit, especially if the kids are up watching tv. Normally the sound of the rain helps me sleep as well, but we have a very noisy downspout on the corner of our bedroom that wakes me up and then of course there's the snoring...
I've tried earplugs but they hurt after awhile and fall out in the middle of the night! Our room is very dark and we keep it nice and cool in there, which helps- I don't know, I've started taking calcium before I go to bed, read somewhere that it relaxes you, drinking Tension Tamer tea also, not watching tv or staring at the computer for an hour or so before I go to bed as well is supposed to help...I don't know, maybe I just need to go back to work :(
Been in ALOT of pain lately too, the arthritis in my neck and lower back has been worse recently, mostly my neck and nothing I take for the pain really works. I don't expect to be pain free but some relief would be nice!
